Color can be very tricky. Seasonally I am a total chameleon – in the summer all you see me wearing is color, but as soon as the weather changes it’s like the life and color just disappear (sort of mirroring my feelings about it, I guess!).

I gave myself a little challenge recently to branch out of my go-to winter wardrobe (a.k.a. black and more black) and find ways to lighten my everyday outfits. It’s hard enough trying to stay warm and bundled in the winter but it’s even tougher for me once I’m out of bed to come up with something more colorful and fun.

Pink is actually not my favorite color – or even in my top 5. I usually love a more muted tone and olive green is by far the winner if you ever step foot in my closet. But that doesn’t mean I’m afraid to give it a shot, and especially when it comes to trying to choose colors that work well for the cold months. Have you ever seen pink in the snow? It’s gorgeous!

Even though it’s not my favorite, it’s a great complement to the colors that already make up my winter rotation. I have a lot of white and cream sweaters and it also looks beautiful as a contrast against black. This adorable pompom beanie ties it all together and lightens up what easily could’ve been an all black ensemble most days.

How do you add color to your winter wardrobe?
