Every year as winter winds down I always find myself doing more shopping as I prepare for the change in seasons. I decided to try something a little different this year and really wanted to focus on buying spring staples first. I’ve learned over the years that having a few key pieces that go with everything can really extend your entire seasonal wardrobe so much farther than picking up a few expensive, few wear items.

Everyone talks about essentials and staples, but this year that concept has really hit home with me and especially in a camel color palette. I recently picked up this trenchcoat and I think that’s what really kicked this off.

1. ESPADRILLES

This year I decided to start with shoes – I have an older pair of espadrilles and knew that in the spring and summer I end up wearing these out and about often. This version from Soludos is under $100 (and for those of you with tiny feet too comes in a size 5!) and I’ve already been wearing them nonstop. They also come in a laser cut version!

2. SATCHEL

Next up was a neutral bag. I have a few that I have been rotating, but none in this camel color or this shape. I wanted a satchel that was big enough for me to carry things to and from work, or if I wanted to throw in a bottle of water or light jacket for a longer walk.

3. STRIPED TEE

You’ll be surprised at how versatile this little tee can be – pair it with a simple jacket, a little mini skirt, or a casual pair of jeans like these.

4. WHITE JEANS

I finally gave in last summer and invested in a nice pair of Rag & Bone white jeans and haven’t looked back. I keep them in the rotation even during the winter months!

5. WATCH

You may normally go for silver or gold like me, but I am loving this casual camel watch for everyday wear. It’s easy to throw on and the neutral color helps balance out whatever else you have on.

So far, these have been a great base for recent outfits. I’m looking forward to showing you how each of these pieces can become a key in another outfit once you start with the basics!

Love the post and the tips! I am actually working on a Spring Must-Buy post as well and have many of the same items as you on my list (great minds…). I recently got a new pair of Soludos for spring and can only imagine how much I will be wearing them this spring and summer. Great post!

I absolutely love the coat! Blush is one of my favorite colors for spring!
