Ahhh. It’s really, actually here! This weekend in New York truly felt like fall and I have to say, it was pretty amazing. The windows were open, you just needed a light sweater, and the candles are coming back out on Sunday nights.

I’ve been a little more busy these days and truthfully haven’t been shopping at all. Good for my wallet, but a little tough on my mornings. After successfully swapping everything in my closet this weekend I was able to refresh my memory on what I already have so that I’m not double dipping.

I mentioned this last week but these days I’ve been going for classic looks and simple outfits lately. I’ve had to drop this white blouse off at the dry cleaner just about every week! When it comes to layering, as long as you have the basics you have the foundation laid for just about any addition.

My favorite thing about this outfit is that it’s great on its own or is the perfect blank canvas for adding a poncho or oversized scarf.. more to come on that later, but for now let’s talk about my three essentials:

DARK DENIM

This is my favorite pair of jeans that I picked up a few years ago at an event I hosted at Madewell. They’re stretchy, snug and the perfect denim color.

WHITE BLOUSE

Every woman’s go-to. I try to pick up one on sale every year as I wear them down, but you can get as creative or simple as you want with these.

OVER THE KNEE BOOTS

While some may opt for ankle boots, I’ve found that in colder climates a pair of neutral over-the-knee boots end up being my staple when the temperatures really start dropping. The extra color also serves almost like an accessory to your outfit.

This weekend was perfect – just enough fun, relaxation and getting things accomplished. I’m really excited to be heading to Charlottesville at the end of the week with my family and Mickey for a wedding. I can’t wait to see how beautiful Virginia is at the beginning of October. Until then, Happy Monday!
