Wedding Attire: Luxe Lady

Another post in the Wedding Attire series! I bring you a blue-ish gray luxurious looking ensemble inspired by Elizabeth Banks’ Versace gown at the 2010 Oscars. This weekend I have another wedding to attend- this time it’s my best friend from college. I’m very excited and even though my dress is already set (I’m the MOH) there will be plenty of people in attendance who are probably frantically checking their closets trying to figure out what to wear. The fact that it’s one of the first weekends of the year and still winter makes it a lot of fun to plan an outfit. This blue-gray color is to die for… so elegant and classy and with the silver beaded embellishments it makes for the perfect wintry wedding dress. The sleeves are perfectly chiffon enough to give it a winter look without making it too hot to wear as the night goes on. Adding a bit of sparkle with the earrings makes for a beautiful touch (you want to skip on the necklace because of the embellished neckline.. it’s like a built in one!). I love this silver clutch from Aldo… it’s perfect for our outfit and very affordable. It also seems spacious enough to fit the necessities: phone, camera, lip gloss, etc. I don’t like to break the bank on evening clutches because you will use them sparsely over the course of a year.

Winter weddings typically pose the question… sandals or pumps? I’m sure there is a politically correct answer to this, but I think it totally depends on your dress. In this case, these Manolo pumps polish off a classy outfit and with the jewel on the toe they add the finishing touch to the cohesiveness of this outfit. If you have a more summery dress (i.e., no sleeves/strapless and brighter colors) you may want to opt for a nude or black closed-toe platform (whatever works best with your dress) to balance out the look. In my opinion, you can pull off a dark colored strapless with sandals for a winter wedding because deep colors look more evening-wear-ish. Just don’t forget a coat! Faux fur is a great way to evening-itize your outfit from head to toe.

If you’re friends with the bride/bridesmaids, find out what the bride chose for her color. You’re always safe if she chose black, but let’s say she chose red. You probably wouldn’t want to show up in a long red dress… no one wants to look like a wanna be b-maid! If you didn’t have a chance to previously, check out this post with some general tips for getting dressed for a wedding. Check out the links below if you’re interested in any of these items!

  1. Topshop pale blue snow jewel dress, $120
  2. Erickson Beamon chandelier earrings, $475
  3. Aldo Krah clutch, $34.98
  4. Manolo Blahnik Hangisi jeweled satin pump, $945

Don’t forget that the Golden Globes air this Sunday evening (1/16). I can’t wait to see the gorgeous gowns … presumably many that we saw on the runway this fall at Fashion Week!
