My Winter Weekend Skincare Routine

winter skincare, weekend skincare routine

That sounds like a mouthful, doesn’t it? The truth is I don’t have as much time during the week to really give my skin some extra love that it so desperately needs in the winter. Sure, I do my best but I don’t go above and beyond.

This last weekend we were doing some chores around the apartment and I decided to use that time to catch up on my skincare. I picked up some of my favorite products that I don’t get to use everyday and created a new routine that left my skin looking the best it has in months. This is getting saved as one of my favorite ways to bring my winter skin back to life and also includes some old favorites just in a new order!

1. Exfoliate

The first step in this routine requires some exfoliation–you need to get rid of those dead skin cells. I love the Laura Mercier face polish and have started using it in the shower. Combined with the heat and steam I feel like it really does a great job of exfoliating my skin but in a gentle way.

2. Deep cleanse

The next step is to give your face a deep cleanse. I use Erborian cleanser daily (it’s my absolute favorite and is also gentle on your skin), but sometimes I switch back to my Eve Lom cleansing balm. If you haven’t tried a balm cleanser before, just know that it really works to deep clean your pores and clear up your skin. I don’t have time to use it every night as of late, but it’s worth the extra few minutes.

3. Apply facial oil

I’ve had the La Mer Renewal Oil for a while now and have to say that it really works miracles. I was unsure of how my skin would react to an oil previously (I had tested some others and my skin didn’t like them), but this time of year my skin can’t get enough. I also learned a trick that if you mix it with your moisturizer or foundation it gives your skin a dewey glow. I use it all over my face and neck to add moisture to the routine and really let my skin absorb its benefits.

4. Brightening Mask

The other La Mer favorite of mine is the La Mer Brightening Mask. While you probably have sheet masks and mud masks that you use regularly, this one is different and so far has been my favorite mask that actually works on my skin. I can actually feel a change every time I apply it (sometimes my skin tingles) and it helps even out my dull and lifeless winter complexion.

5. Finish with a serum

The last step is to finish with a serum. I tend to skip moisturizing creams in the winter just to opt for something stronger. Serums will actually penetrate your skin while moisturizers can sit on top of the surface. My favorite is the True Botanicals Serum because it actually works to repair the cells and has anti-inflammatory components that combat the redness I struggle with thanks to the wind. It also smells amazing.

How do you give your skin a little extra love when you have time?
