We returned from Korea last week to find that while we were gone, fall had arrived. There’s a crispness in the air and the leaves are finally acquiescing to the change in season.

I have so much more to share about our trip, but I came back with a renewed sense of simplicity. Whether it was feeling like I surround myself with too much clutter, care about things that just don’t matter, or spend too much money on things are not worth it, I returned feeling grateful and happy to cleanse my life and closet.

During the trip I found myself gravitating towards the Korean style, which is relatively minimal and full of staples, like a basic trench coat or sweater. There are a few brands that do this so well with higher quality pieces, but a smaller dent in your wallet. UNIQLO is a brand that I’ve turned to since moving to New York – especially for cold weather staples like this cashmere sweater.

Growing up in Texas I didn’t understand the allure of cashmere and staple sweaters that could withstand several seasons of cold weather. Now that I’ve lived in colder climates I appreciate the softness and warmth that they bring and am usually looking for any versions that I can that are well priced. I love that this crewneck cashmere sweater can really be worn with anything. I paired it with jeans and black booties for a classic everyday fall look, but I can’t wait to wear it with a long skirt and boots and a wool coat as the temperatures continue to drop. At a $79 price point, you can’t beat it.

If you’re looking for other cold weather staples, I’m also a big fan of this wool blend coat for under $150, this teddy coat, and I’ll definitely be picking up a few of these cashmere scarves for layering up.

Halloween is around the corner and soon enough we’ll be bundled from head to toe heading into the Holidays. What are some of your fall essentials?
