What To Wear To A Summer BBQ

I miss a lot of things about living in Texas: the space, the prices, the food… but if you asked me the one thing I thought I would never have in New York that’s a staple in every home in the Lone Star State it’s actually a grill.

In my first single days in Dallas I would always have fresh veggies for the week and a little bit of meat or seafood and I’d come home from work, throw on comfies, and take a tray downstairs to grill up my dinner and eat outside. I’d usually hop in the pool afterward for a night swim to cap off the night.

I have such fond memories from going to family BBQ’s and even through college getting to go over to friends’ houses for summer grilling. If you’ve never tried grilling fruit you really need to check out these recipes! Peaches and pineapple are two of my favorites.

MG’s parents grill all of the time when we’re home over the summer and some of my favorite nights have been sitting outside on the patio watching the sunset after spending most of the day by the pool. When it comes time to get ready, I just want something effortless. I gravitate towards bringing maxi dresses with me for weekends like these because it’s the only thing I can wear where I can actually beat MG getting dressed!

I realized at the start of the summer that I actually didn’t have a black maxi dress, so I made it my mission to fix that! They’re great to transition to the fall as well with a cute jacket and wedges or even booties. I found this version that comes in 5+ colors for under $100 and was instantly sold. In wedges, the length is just about perfect for me and anything that saves me some tailor $$ is great in my book.

What’s your go to for a summer BBQ?
